Destination Davis is an intensive pathway program designed for international students who wish to improve their academic and/or language skills before transferring to the University of California. Students enter through a rigorous academic preparatory program, complete a series of courses at our partner colleges and, upon successful completion of program requirements, transfer to the University of California, Davis, or another UC campus.

Successful admission to a community college and a UC requires following a path of prescribed course work and successful academic progress.

Placement by English Language Ability

Destination Davis program students will be placed into appropriate IEP levels between Level 100 (beginning) and Level 800 (the most advanced) based on a written and oral assessment test. Students who are placed in Level 600 or above will need to complete one quarter of the Pathway Program (eight or 10 weeks depending on the quarter) before they can transfer to one of our partner community colleges. Students who place below Level 600 will need to enroll in our 10-week Intensive English Language Program until they reach Level 600.

Christian Brothers University (CBU) Information: Christian Brothers University is a four-year, private university affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church. The University was founded in 1871 by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, a Catholic teaching order.

CBU is located on a 75-acre wooded campus in midtown Memphis, Tennessee—about four miles east of downtown; near Interstates 40, 240, and 55; and close to major medical centers. The campus is at 650 East Parkway South, at the corner of Central Avenue.

Program Intoduction

According to the Collaboration Agreement between CBU and Xihua University, students complete their first year of their graduate program at Xihua University and complete their second year of the graduate program at CBU.

The framework for transfer of credit is as follows:

  • CBU requires the completion 11 course (33 credit hours) to obtain a degree from the CBU graduate engineering program. CBU graduate engineering program offers two degrees: Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) and Master of Science in Computer Information systems (MSCIS).
  • Students are required to have an undergraduate degree in one of the following fields: Engineering, Pharmacy, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences.
  • The students will complete their first year of the graduate program at Xihua University.
  • To obtain a graduate engineering degree from CBU under the transfer of credit agreement, after completion of their first year at Xihua University, the students will complete 8 courses (24 credit hours) at CBU in their second year. Students will be allowed to transfer up to 3 technical or management courses with course grades A or B from Xihua University to CBU.

Motivation to complete an intensive program of business study

If your first language is not English, you will be asked to prove evidence of fluency in English through the submission of a minimum TOEFL score of 550 (213 Computer Based TOEFL, 79-80 Internet Based TOEFL) or a minimum of TOEIC score of 755.

Advanced Standing

Students may transfer up to three courses from UVic credit programs or from other colleges and universities, providing the course content and requirements closely match the certificate courses.

To obtain advanced standing send a written request for consideration of advanced standing, along with course outlines, to the Program Director and arrange to have official transcripts sent directly from the issuing institution to Business and Management Programs. An innovative, hands-on program that balances theory and practice across all dimensions of ecological restoration. The key strength of the Restoration of Natural Systems (RNS) Diploma program is its emphasis on a holistic approach, providing training that combines the research and theory of the biophysical sciences with skills for effective collaboration with communities in restoration work.

This dynamic, interdisciplinary credit program provides comprehensive knowledge and skills to those interested in the rapidly emerging field of ecological restoration. Learn about the most current restoration practices from experienced and knowledgeable instructors, surrounded by peers that share your passion for the natural world.

This RNS program is supported by a unique partnership between the School of Environmental Studies and the Division of Continuing Studies, resulting in expertly designed courses that are current, comprehensive and delivered with attention to the needs of adult learners. Achieve your goals at your own pace with online and on campus course options and flexible program completion timelines.

The RNS Program has received both the Award of Excellence from the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education (2001) and the Ecostar Award for Environmental Education from the Capital Regional District (2005).

Courses & fees

Students must complete 12 credit courses (18.0 credit units) in order to obtain their diploma: six core (required) courses and six electives.

With prior permission from the Academic Administrator, students may take up to four of these electives from outside of the program. Courses considered for transfer into the program should be at the third- or fourth-year undergraduate level and should focus on a topic related to the field of restoration.

Admission requirements

The credit program is offered at the third- and fourth-year undergraduate level. You should have a minimum of two years of post-secondary studies or an equivalent preparation developed through work and life experience.

A first year ecology or biology course is recommended.

You should also have a demonstrated interest in the environmental field, indicated by courses taken, positions held, volunteer work or hobbies.

Applicants who speak English as a second language must meet the University of Victoria's English language proficiency requirements before applying to the program.

University Pathways Program

This full-time program combines academic English and UVic credit courses. It is for students who:

  • Meet UVic’s academic requirements but still need to meet the English language requirement for direct entry to UVic
  • Want to complete a four- or five-year undergraduate degree at UVic

Program description

If you want to do your undergraduate degree at UVic but do not yet meet the English language requirements, the University Pathways Program (Pathways) might be the perfect option for you.

Pathways is not just an English language program: it’s an opportunity to make a strong start at university by combining first-year credit courses with advanced academic English classes. As a Pathways student you will study in small classes, enjoy personal attention from professors and gain vital study tools to be successful at UVic.

Pathways has 2 streams: Social Sciences and Science and Engineering. In both streams, you study the same curriculum and textbooks as other UVic students. You’ll also have access to UVic’s wide range of international student supports, such as the UVic library, student mentorship program and tutors.

As a Pathways student you can look forward to a challenging, supported first year of university that will put you on the path to success in your UVic degree program.

Over 1,000 students from 30 countries attend ELPI each year. It’s a program full of options and opportunities, including:

Each day in class, you will enjoy the support of two teachers who work together to help develop your English skills through challenging projects, activities and discussions. Outside of class, you’ll have access to valuable resources like:

English requirement: In order to complete the program in the outlined schedule, you should already have an advanced English level, approximately equivalent to IELTS 5.0 or higher. You will be tested and placed in the appropriate English class when you arrive. If you are placed at a lower level this may lengthen your study time to complete the Diploma in Business Administration.

Completion requirements

To qualify for the University of Victoria's Diploma in Business Administration (DBA), you must successfully complete 14 business courses. When you register for the program you are automatically enrolled in the set curriculum of intensive business courses.

Application deadline

Students must apply two months prior to the start of the program to ensure placement in homestay accommodation.
